The seven Chakras are the main energy centres of the human body. Derived from the Sanskrit term cakra meaning “wheel”, the chakras are believed to be perpetually spinning disks of energy that correspond with major organs and nerve endings that directly or indirectly affect our spiritual and mental wellbeing.

At Maha Mala, our goal is not only to provide you with the best of authentic and ethically sourced spiritual jewellery but also to acquaint you with your inner, spiritual self.

In today’s lesson on spiritual awakening, we will discuss the Heart Chakra, also known as Anahata

The Heart Chakra: Anahata

The Anahata or Heart Chakra is located, as the name suggests, at the centre of the chest, just above the heart, and governs our relationship with the idea of love, both received and given. Responsible for the functioning of both the heart and the lungs, the Anahata is considered the seat of the metaphysical Self. The medial point of the seven chakras, the Anahata acts like a bridge connecting our upper and lower chakras and is representative of our ability to love ourselves and others.

Those with a blocked or misaligned Anahata tend to experience emotions of isolation, loneliness and insecurity, and put the emotions of others before their own, with damaging conclusions for their mental health and well-being.

Associated with the colour green, and with the air element, the Heart Chakra is symbolic of our inner peace and is the root of the positive emotions of compassion, connectedness, and sympathy, as well as the harsher emotions of abandonment, despair and emotional uncertainty.

The Anahata is often symbolized by the Star of David and emphasizes both service of others, as well as unconditional self-love.

As with most of the subtle energies of the higher chakras, the application of yogic practice required to harness their energies is also equally subtle. Pranayama and breath work coupled with intent-driven meditation with a Rose Quartz gemstone are beneficial to those looking to harness these energies and centre the mind through chakra healing.
